I am a big fan of FitFlops, particularly as finding time for keeping fit is not my strong point with 2 young children in tow. It does make me feel better to throw on my Fitflop boots on the school run and know that somehow the clever technology in their shoes is activating more muscles than I might normally use with any other pair of shoes. An absolute bonus - I love any kind of genius that helps better my lifestyle without me even thinking about it!
So, I was interested to find about the FitFlop Shuv clog design competition that was taking place. Now, back in 2000 the internationally renowned London College of Fashion joined forces with Cordwainers Technical college who are renowned as the world's leading experts in teaching shoemaking and working with leather.
The shoe design and accessories department at London College of Fashion is still named 'Cordwainers' for short I understand and this is the team that FitFlop have just recently teamed up with along with two judges who specialise in fashion design.
FitFlop set a challenge for the students to customise a pair of FitFlop's famously popular Shuv clogs, in particular they had to work with the shiny red pair in the range (pictured above), and their designs had to express LOVE.
The designs were judged by fashion journalist Hilary Alexander, Marcia Kilgore (founder and owner of FitFlops) and fashion designer Lulu Guinness.
The designs have now been judged and shortlisted to five and FitFlop will reveal the winner on Valentine's Day, but to get to that decision they now need your help and input. They want the public to vote for their favourite FitFlop from the five shortlisted designs and these are now live on their FitFlop Facebook page from today Monday 11th until Wednesday 13th February so go and take a look right now and place your vote. Everyone who does vote via their Facebook page, will be put into a draw to win one of 14 pairs of Shuv clogs (in the colour of their choice) which FitFlop are giving away*.
I can't wait to go and have a nose and make my vote.
As I mentioned the winner will be announced by FitFlop on Valentine's Day and the London College of Fashion Cordwainers student with the winning design will receive £1000 and a full day’s footwear design workshop with the FitFlop design team, a pretty awesome reward. Why not get involved and take a vote, and be entered into the prize draw.
Interesting fact alert...I read a little about Cordwainers as I knew very little of the college, and wondered where the name was from. Apparently the word 'cordwainer' derives from 'cordwain' or 'cordovan' which is the name of the leather produced in Cordoba, Spain. So there you go, little bit of trivia which will never be useful but interesting to know I thought!
