Love camping but so much to pack!

I am one of those people who loves a list. I always have great faith that if I write a list, particularly when going on holiday about what to pack, that nothing will be forgotten and all will be well. That's never the case with a camping holiday however, not for me anyway. The list happens, and it grows, and grows, every year, I add more, very little comes off of it, the amount of stuff needed for a family camping holiday is just incredible isn't it?
I'm just starting to think about any breaks we'll take next year and about our annual camping trip. As much as the packing daunts me, it's always a great holiday with a fun group of friends and the pain of stuffing and emptying the car twice over is always worth it in the end. As much as I know I should not buy any more camping accessories I can't help myself sometimes in particular with items that I think will save us space. I've spotted a couple of things I think we'll invest in for next year, one is getting rid of our super bulky air-beds that we take and getting some sleeping mats instead. I hear they're pretty comfortable and it wouldn't take much to beat a lumpy airbed after all. I've also been keeping an eye out for a portable BBQ as we have ended up taking our big drum BBQ (honestly don't know how we fit it in but we did) the last couple of years. Really like the look of this Campingaz Fargo Portable BBQ grill that Millets sell for £65 (pic below). A good investment I think and worth the space we'll save. Is it slightly odd to buy my husband a camping BBQ for Christmas?!
Hopefully with a bit more preparation anyway we'll be in for a little less of a squashed journey next year.
