Save calories with Stowells Light - Have another mince pie!

'Tis the season to merry! And so, we all feel like we have no excuse but to go ahead and have that extra little tipple or two, don't we? And that extra mince pie please. Yes, lovely Christmas drinks parties-a-plenty, happy people leaving work for the holidays, no excuse. I do worry and I think many do, about the extra calories primarily that I will consume throughout this festive period as I think my exercise regime may come to a halt too (in fact it already has...eek). And whilst I don't drink a lot usually, I'm pretty sure my alcohol consumption will go up over the next couple of weeks which I am conscious is not really a great thing.

This is why it was great to discover that a trusted brand has recognised our concerns and released a low-alcohol and low-calorie wine, and wait for it....it tastes good too! Hoorah. It's called Stowells Light, it is available in white or rosé and contains just 60 calories per glass, that’s 30 per cent less than a standard glass of wine, it is low in alcohol too, at just 5.5 per cent (most white wines for example range from around 10 - 13%).

I was sceptical about the taste for sure, we had the white to taste, but it has a great light taste that is full of flavour, crisp and similar to the flavours of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It passed the test with us, we did not feel the taste suffered in any way for being low in calories and alcohol. Obviously this is also a bonus at this time of year when you're watching your calorie intake, but would be very refreshing in the Summer months too.

There is also a Stowells Light Rosé which sounds delicious, full of strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit flavours balanced with a zesty acidity.

I'm just pleased to have discovered Stowells Light the week before Christmas...a refreshing glass of wine that will make me feel OK about having another mince pie/quality street/roast potato...(I could go on) is a winner for me.

Stowells Light is available at all ASDA stores nationwide for RRP £5.49.

  2. Sounds great and a must for daytime events when you want a drink but are concious that a strong wine may get you tipsy after just one glass!

  3. I found this wine to be quite enjoyable, it's really captured the oak tones of a good Chardonnay.

  4. Sounds lovely and definitely something I'd give a go. After having had a baby I find alcoholic drinks quite overwhelmingly strong so this sounds like a great light alternative that still allows you to join in the festivities!

  5. Thanks for the tip-off on this one, it is a super Christmas drink and with the festive period upon us it is a really good way to keep an eye on the calories as well as the alcohol limit!
